Veterinary Clinical Trials Intern

Overview

The Clinical Trials Intern is a licensed veterinarian who will obtain post-graduate training in the design, execution, and administration of large-scale longitudinal clinical research and trials. The Clinical Trials Intern will be supervised by and work closely with the leadership of the Dog Aging Project, a nationwide prospective longitudinal study of 10,000 companion dogs. The Dog Aging Project is funded by the National Institute on Aging, of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Program

Through this post-graduate year, the Clinical Trials Intern will gain knowledge and experience in large-scale prospective clinical research through exposure to and active involvement with protocol design, participant enrollment, participant communication, and data management for the Dog Aging Project. There will be up to three two–week clinical rotations during this year, and the Clinical Trials Intern will participate in the care of patients enrolled at Texas A&M University VMTH into the clinical trials associated with the Dog Aging Project. The Clinical Trials Intern will participate in decision-making with respect to the management of patients on clinical trials, and the reporting of clinical trials results. It is expected that the Intern will submit one first-author peer-reviewed publication prior to completion of the training program.

In addition to hands-on research experience, the Intern will have the opportunity to participate in the Department’s strong didactic house officer education program, which includes a house officer seminar series, weekly rotating intern topic rounds presented by faculty or residents, twice-monthly rotating intern skills rounds, ECG rounds, and various specialty services’ journal clubs and topic rounds.
